The leader of the main opposition party in Ghana, the NDC, has said the party disagrees with the today’s Supreme Court’s judgment on the compilation of a new voter register for the December polls.
At an evening press encounter, the former president and presidential candidate of the NDC said his party is utterly dissatisfied with the outcome of the supreme court’s ruling.
“Despite the well-reasoned reliefs we sought, the apex court of our land had given a leeway for the Electoral Commission to go ahead with the exclusion of the existing voter identification card from the list of identification requirement for the registration of the new register.
“We are deeply disappointed and we sternly disagree with the court over this outcome which has confounded many legal experts and indeed has thrown the whole country into a state of confusion,” he added.
The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision on Thursday gave the determination to the case before it and concluded that the Electoral Commission had the mandate to compile a new register.
The former president however admonished all NDC sympathizers and voters to ensure to get registered when the new voters registration exercise begins on 30 June.
Mr Mahama also advised all voters to observe all the necessary covid19 protocols.
