The senior minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo has come under severe criticism over comments he allegedly made in reaction to government decision to deport a chinese national over the galamsey menace.
The Chinese national ‘Aisha’ Huang, notoriously nicknamed as ‘galamsey queen’ in Ghana was deported in December, 19 2018.
Mr Osafo Marfo, who is touring the world with some government appointees, on what is dubbed, “Diaspora Town Hall” engagements left his audiences more confused and insulted during the Washington DC Town Hall programme on April 14th 2019.
He said, “prosecuting Aisha Huang would not solve the galamsey problem”. Understandably, the audience felt insulted and bewildered by the senior ministers comments.
Many Ghanaians believe the fight against galamsey isn’t achieving results because most of the culprits of these bad practices are serving in this current administration.
You will recall that before taking over the government, Vice President Bawumia in a company of some senior New Patriotic Party national executives went to Chinese to beg for money to aid in their campaign. As it stand now, Ghanaians are not aware what sort of deals were made on that trip.
Some citizens have also been arrested in Ghana, whiles government believes prosecuting foreigners engaged in the galamsey and illegal mining could affects so called deals and investment opportunities.
If prosecuting foreigners wouldn’t end the menace, why set up a committee on Galamsey, some members of the public asked:
More soon.
