The East London Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a get-together on Saturday 16th February 2019 to showcase a unity of purpose for the entire NDC membership.
The event which took place in a community church hall right in the heart of East London, merged the past, the present and the future of NDC in the UK, in a way that has not been seen in a long while, one long standing member expressed.
In attendance were founding members of the branch Madam Christine Borsah, Mrs Akua Owusu, Kofi Adoli, Alex Bediako, Rodger Appiah and Louisa Nelson. Also present were members of Milton Keynes Branch, including their current and former Chairmen Conrad Dumbah and Peter Kumadi respectively, members of Reading Branch, North and South London Branches, with apologies from the West Midlands Branch and Chairman of London South Branch.
Representatives of the invited branches delivered solidarity messages.
Members of East London branch were particularly delighted to have in attendance three of the UK Chapter’s stalwarts in the persons of the immediate past Chapter Chairman Mr Kofi Kwakye, the immediate former Secretary Mr Sam Quaye and the former Treasurer Mr Adjei.
The Interim Chairman of the East London Branch, Mr Elijah Tiimob delivered a short but powerful message in which he thanked all present for sacrificing in various ways to make the event a great success. Citing the popular story of the Chinese peasant farmer who exchanged his only possession, a live chicken for a dozen bamboo seeds that he planted and watered religiously for 5 years before they sprouted and quickly grew into a thick bamboo forest, that, then provided him with income for the rest of his life, Mr Tiimob encouraged all members to continue to work hard, even if their hard work appears to bear no fruits in the short term.
He expressed absolute certainty that the seeds they have collectively sewn will flourish and become the biggest and best branch the UK has ever seen. And what a way to end the function!
The branch had two new members who joined the party whilst, few others took membership forms to complete and return in due cause.
In his solidarity message the Milton Keynes Branch Chairman, Mr Conrad Dumba praised the efforts of all involved in setting up the East London Branch and pledged their unqualified support in helping the party grow at the branch level. To back his words with actions the Milton Keynes Branch, through their chairman presented East London branch with a brand new banner bearing the NDC logo and the words “NDC East London Branch welcomes you”.
Mr Elijah Timob on his part thanked the Doyen Branch of the UK and Ireland Chapter for their support.
The former chapter Chairman, Mr Kofi Kwakye encouraged the chapter to embrace the desire of members by helping more branches to be formed. He added that, the momentum of West Midlands, Reading and East London Branches and elsewhere were necessary for the party’s agenda 2020 electoral success, hence, the inaugurations of these branches shouldn’t be delayed.
The East London Branch Interim Women’s Organiser Madam Stella Fiagbedzi working closely with the Chapter Women’s Organiser Madam Louisa Nelson and all women of the new branch, ensured everyone was well-fed.
The sounds for the event was provided by DJ Professor Kwesi Oye who ensured that party members danced until they dropped.
