The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a passionate appeal to tens of thousands of its supporters to be patient and not be discouraged as leadership of the party work to get its national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo released from the Police headquarters.
This follows report that some party supporters had planned to besiege the police headquarters in a protest against the arrest of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo.
The NDC national chairman was on Tuesday afternoon picked up by the police and sent to his house for a search as part of police investigations.
The police is yet to officially speak on the arrest but report indicates the move is in relation to the recent kidnappings in Ghana.
The arrest followed Ofosu-Ampofo’s refusal to honour an invitation to report to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist in investigations into the recent spate of kidnappings and arson in Ghana.
A suspect is reported to have accused the NDC chairman of being behind the crimes, a situation which informed the police to invite him for questioning.
When Ofosu-Ampofo refused to report to the police, they subsequently went to court to obtain an arrest warrant.
In a statement copied to Ghanamatters.com and signed by its general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party urged angry teaming supporters of the party to “remain calm and await information on any course of action the Party deems fit in the circumstances.”
