A former Vice Chairperson of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and two other activists of the party have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency of the North East Region.
Sumani Mutawakilu who is the former NDC executive who led Majeed Mahamudu and Mubinu Halidu to announce their decision, accused his former party of neglect and it’s intolerant posture to divergent views.
According to him, he has seen the light and that the NPP is more focused and developed the Mamprugu area better than was seen under the NDC which is why he feels his involvement in the elephant family will mean well for the general well-being of the area.
The former constituency vice chair observed that under the Nana Addo led Government; young people in the Walewale constituency are being given opportunities under the various social intervention programmes that had brought employment and relief to people in all corners of the country.
“We took the decision to defect to the “other side of the political divide, because of our brother; the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and how his party is transforming our constituency within the shortest period in power.”
North East Regional Secretary of the NPP, Lawyer Sulley Sambian reiterated the commitment of the current administration to honour its campaign promises to the latter and urged the new converts to be agents of change.
He underscored the need for party members to trumpet the achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of which their kinsman, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the Vice President reassuring them of their fair share of the national cake.
“NPP has the people of the North East Region at heart and will never fail them. Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia consider the area as a sore point and will never do anything to undermine the confidence reposed in them”, he revealed urging them to bring more members into the only development oriented party (NPP).
