The National Democratic Congress has launched an ‘adopt a branch’ strategy as part of efforts to quickly recapture power in 2020.
Towards that end, the party has developed a manual to provide clarity on how a branch could be adopted.
Making the announcement at the 27th anniversary celebration of the party in Accra, the Chairman of the NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, indicated that further details on the branch strategy would be made available to all members who were interested in adopting branches.
“It is worthy to note that we have launched an adopt a branch strategy which will see all our branches being adopted and supported by individuals and groups within the party. A manual has been developed to provide clarity on how a branch can be adopted.
Commitment to building a resilient party
Mr Ofosu Ampofo was quick to add that the primary responsibility of the leadership of the party was to build a resilient and formidable NDC and ensure that the party won in the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.
“Admittedly, fulfilling that responsibility will not be a walk in the park. It is a tough challenge but as National Chairman, I believe we have a tougher leadership and a battle-ready base of the party, ready to work tirelessly to regain power in 2020,” he assured.
Launching the activities commemorating the 27th anniversary of the party, he enumerated that “our party has won four out of the seven general elections held so far since the coming into force of the 1992 Constitution. The
NDC, despite whatever challenges, is a strong, virile and vigorous party ready to wrest power from the government led by Nana Akufo–Addo.”
“In 2020, the people of Ghana will have an opportunity to vote into office the tried and tested, and the able and patriotic John Dramani Mahama.
In the times that we are, he is the only one that can save our country from the non-performing government,” he added.
Theme for celebration
Throwing light on the theme for the celebration, “Revitalising the NDC for Victory 2020; Targeting effective branch organisation”, he said the theme simply amplified the determination of the leadership of the party to rebuild structures from the base where the power actually resided.
He pointed out that “As an inclusive political party, the strength of our party has always been the masses because we are the only political party that truly offers opportunities to all Ghanaians irrespective of one’s social status, ethnicity or religion.
For him and the party, the majority of Ghanaians believed in the NDC as the vehicle that could bring peace, development and prosperity to all Ghanaians.
Programme line-up
He announced that yesterday, Tuesday, June 11, to Thursday June 13 2019 had been dedicated to the party’s living legends, the elderly members of the party whose invaluable contributions could not be underestimated.
Dubbed the ‘Time with Our heroes and heroines’, those three days, he said, would herald a month-long visitation and interactive programme which would see the leadership of the party pay homage to some very elderly members of the party.
He, therefore, directed that regional and constituency executives should replicate the activity in their respective jurisdictions and that the move was intended to reconnect the leadership of the party to the founder members and also bridge the gap between young executives and past leaders who diligently served the party many years ago.
