President Nana Akufo-Addo has apologised to people with disabilities over his use of the words “blind” and “deaf” in a political speech on last week.
While addressing a rally at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday, he mentioned that his government had fulfilled 41 promises it made to Ghanaians adding that only the blind and deaf would ignore that the promises had been fulfilled.
Responding to the President’s comments, the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization expressed their disappointment over the president’s use of the words deaf and blind.
It stated: “We know that is a political metaphor but there are so many words the President could have used.”
Oh his facebook page, the President Nana Akuffo Addo apologised for “any unintended slight” saying : “If there has been any government that has been on the side of persons with disabilities, it is my government.”
