The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has resigned from his position effective today, 16th November 2020.
In a letter addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his decision is to “enable Your Excellency to take steps to appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”
He suggested that President Akufo-Addo has not been able to ensure his independence and freedom of action.
The special prosecutor’s confirms the long perceived corruptible and hypocritical nature of the president since assuming office in January 2017.
“The one condition upon which I accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor when you invited me to your Office on 10th January 2018 was your firm promise to me that you will respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor,” he stated.
Many social media and political watchers believe the resignation of the special prosecutor is a heavy indictment on the president’s character as leader of the country.
Reacting to the news of Mr Martin Amidu’s resignation on social media, Mr Ken Johnson, the branch chairman of the NDC in Telford UK, said, President Akuffo Addo is damaged beyond repairs. Martin Amidu has only done what the ordinary Ghanaian believe to be the true state of affair in terms of the fight against corruption and the independence of the office of the special prosecutor.
The branch chairman said Ghanaians are waiting for December 7th to kick out the supper incompetent and sleazy government led by Nana Addo.
President Akuffo Addo and his government have now industrialised corruption in Ghana.
