Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah is said to have passed away last Saturday, October 17, at the Police Hospital in Accra.
A Police source told Graphic Online that the suspect died shortly after admission at the hospital.
Nkansah, who was an alleged accomplice of James Nana Womba in the murder of the University of Ghana law lecturer had been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder and had been arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court.
Nkansah was absent at the Court’s hearing on Wednesday, October 14, because he was indisposed and receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to the police source, Nkansah was treated and discharged but was later sent to the hospital last Saturday, where he was admitted for treatment but died shortly afterwards.
The cause of his death is not yet known.
Background
On Sunday, September 13, the body of the 66-year-old professor was found in a pool of blood in a supine position with his hand and legs tied.
Investigations led to the arrest of James Nana Womba, who confessed to the crime and mentioned Badu and others as his accomplices.
On September 21, this year, a post mortem conducted by one Dr Owusu Afriyie, a Pathologist at the Police Hospital, revealed the cause of death to include strangulation and suspected homicide.
Police intelligence led to the arrest of Badu at Ashiaman while efforts are underway to apprehend the other accomplices.
