Former Deputy Interior Minister James Agalga has accused the Akufo Addo government of being insincere following its disclosure that the former government gave the permit for the importation of the large cache of weapons into the country last week.
The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told Journalists that government was surprised by the stance of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) especially since the former deputy Interior Minister issued the permit that allowed the importation of the weapons.
But speaking to Starr News, the Builsa North MP said government focus on the letter requesting permit instead of when the authorization was given is disingenuous.
“…Permission is granted for somebody to issue an import permit so I’m asking when was the import permit issued, that is fundamental. The security situation 2017 January was not the same as it is right now, there are some security circumstances that we were confronted with. Therefore what the NDC statement simply seeks to do is to say that in view of the changed security situation in the country we should be circumspect in the issuance of arms importation permit.
He added: “So if you go back and bring the letter that we supposedly signed in 2017 to make the case that we’re even the ones responsible for the importation without bringing to the fore when the import permit itself was issued is disingenuous.”
