Derrick Tetteh, 26, who is a footballer has been sentenced for impregnating a 12-year-old girl with a 7 years jail term.
Derrick Tetteh, is also said to be an uncle of the young girl. pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement at an Accra Circuit Court.
Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, who happens to be the prosecutor in the case, revealed Derrick Tetteh met his victim last June and subsequently proposed love to her.
The pair began having a sexual relationship, until the young girl became pregnant, although both of them were not initially aware, Pulse Ghana reports.
The pregnancy was uncovered upon a hospital visit by the doctor who attended to the victim.
The matter was subsequently reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Nungua.
During the initial interrogation, Tetteh admitted having sex with the victim but denied being responsible for the pregnancy.
However, the 26-year-old footballer later pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement at an Accra Circuit Court.
Presiding judge, Rita Abrokwah Doko convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment.
