The government of Ghana through the permanent mission of Ghana to the UN and Consulate General of New York has told Ghanaian citizens stranded in the USA to pre book hotel accommodations costing at least $100 USD a night before they can be travel home.
It will cost each stranded citizens an average of $2750 usd to travel back to Ghana.
Meanwhile many of the citizens are dismayed at the directive which offers no room for alternatives to the citizens except preselecting two expensive hotels for them.
The selected hotels for the stranded citizens abroad are Kempinski Hotel and Africa Regent Hotels which are charging GHC 650 and GHC 550 per night respectively.
In a letter cited by Ghanamatter.com, the mission also request that the accommodation must be book for 14-days which satisfies the mandatory quarantine.
There are many hotels in Accra so under which consideration did the officials of Ghana took to arrive at selecting only two hotels which will cost the stranded citizens at least $1400 to pay?
This is beside their minimum cost of flight which is $1350 for economy class.
Some of the stranded citizens are furious over what they call insensitive decisions of the Nana Addo government to rip them off.
