CID invites NDC chairman Ofosu Ampofo over leaked tape

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has invited National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo over a leaked audio tape in which he is heard making some comments considered damning.

According to the police CID, comments made by the NDC Chairman in the leaked audio have security implications, hence his invitation.

In a letter signed by the Deputy Director-General of the CID, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is expected to report at the CID headquarters to help investigations into the leaked tape.

“You are therefore requested to report to the undersigned at the CID Headquarters on Thursday 28th February 2019 at 10:00am to assist in investigations,” the letter of invitation reads.

The said leaked tape has been circulating on traditional and social media platforms since Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

The voice in the tape is purported to be that of the NDC Chairman and he is heard saying both the NDC and NPP dispatched militia groups during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019.

In the said audio, things were said to the fact that the NDC plans on painting President Akufo-Addo as a violent person.

The NDC has, however, denied knowledge of the said audio, stating that their Chairman has not said any of the things in the audio.

They are therefore considering a legal suit.

Meanwhile, the NPP is calling for the resignation of Mr. Ampofo.
