Staff members of the Ghana Cocoa Board in the Ashanti Region demonstrated against the board chairman, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman on 1st May 2018. Their protest surrounded on issues of dissatisfaction and unnecessarily interference of the board chairman with respect to the workers’ pension fund among others.
The workers used the occasion on the celebration of international worker day, which is May 1 to protest their grievances. They called on president Nana Addo to sack the board.
The workers feel threatened by the incessant desire of the board to change their chosen pension fund managers to a different firm which they believe have ties with some board members.
It is alleged that, the behaviour of the board chairman in the administration of his duties is conflict with laid down procedures. The workers are of the view that, President Akuffo Addo should as a matter of urgency disband the current board. Whiles it remains unclear the position of the board, one could argue that there seem to be a gross dissatisfaction within the work force service. Some of the demonstrated argued that, cocobod would be better off under the ministry of finance.
