Ace Journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has sounded a red alert warning to the ruling government over the recent brouhaha between the Minister of Communications and the management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Kweku Baako said, “Government should treat cautiously, I think both in terms of contents and assets, I don’t see government having much grounds on this matter, let’s trigger the national media commission into all this thing,…I think government should stay out of this”
The minister of communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, in a letter to the Director-General of GBC requested that the state broadcaster shut down three channels to free up space on the DTT platform. But, the GBC board and management have referred directive from the minister to the National Media Commission for redress.
According to the state broadcaster, closing any channel could collapse the GBC. The management also argue that all the channels serve unique purposes and none can be taken down.
The MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, who serves on Communications Committee has accused the minister of stampeding the work of the state broadcaster.
