The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC),the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYs) are said to have been slapped with a $17,000 fine by the continent football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) during the 2018 Total African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
CAF slapped the fine on the three institutions after a break in transmission during the opening game of the tournament between host, Ghana and Algeria at the Accra Sports Stadium on – Nov 17.
The fine was handed to them – AWCON LOC, GBC and MoYS following a report by broadcast right holder of CAF properties – Largadere Sports.
The MoYS and LOC have refuted claims of having any agreement with the state broadcaster, but have passed the fine on to the GFA Normalisation Committee.
The Super Falcons were crowned champions of AWCON 2018 for the 9th time last Saturday following a 4-3 penalties shootout win over the Bayana Bayana of South Africa after a 0-0 draw after extra-time at the Accra Sports Stadium.
