In this summer Leeds United signed Italian striker Caleb Ekuban for an undisclosed fee after spending from Italian side Chievo. It came after an impressive spell out on loan with Albanian side Partizani Tirana, during which Ekuban managed to score 18 goals in 42 games.
That sort of goalscoring form has not translated to English football. So far Leeds fans have been thoroughly disappointed with the 24-year-old for his performances. The striker has spent much of the season on the sidelines but is currently back in the starting fold.
Ekuban was born to Ghanaian parents in Villafranca di Verona and grew up in Italy. But his Ghanaian heritage has clearly not gone unnoticed and the West African nation, who are rebuilding after a failed World Cup qualifying campaign, obviously think Ekuban would be a good addition.
Such a move would come as a surprise. Ekuban has hardly been a success at Elland Road. So far he has just the two goals for the club this season, with a seven month barren period in between them.
If Ekuban was to get his Ghana chance in this summer Leeds fans would hope it can spark him into some sort of form at Elland Road next term. If not, then a long future at Leeds may not be in the offing for Ekuban.
