Ashanti Regional Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Agyenim Boateng has been arrested after he was accused of defrauding seven persons with the promise of giving them government jobs.
Confirming the arrest, Luv FM‘s Erastus Asare Donkor told Joy News Wednesday, three police CID officers in plain clothes picked up Agyenim Boateng from his residence in Buokrom South Africa, in Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
He drove them in his RAV 4 vehicle to the Tafo Pankorano Divisional and District Police headquarters.
His arrest came after complainant and a popular NPP serial caller ‘Yeboah Krofrom’ accused the NPP man of failing to get them jobs in the security services after receiving GH₵11,400 from seven persons.
Daniel Agyenim Boateng allegedly took GH₵2,000 each from five persons and GH₵700 from two others.
But after several months of waiting for the expected enrolment into the public service, the frustrated complainant proceeded to the Tafo Pankorano Divisional and District Police headquarters.
The NPP Regional Organiser was arrested and has since presented a written statement to the police. He is yet to be charged.
The government faces frustrating levels of unemployment and the NPP promise to provide jobs was one of the central issues in the 2016 general elections.
The government has signalled the private sector will be its job creation wand as the public sector is believed to be bloated.
It has not stopped moves to compete for any perceived or real vacancies in the public sector.
The NPP’s Ashanti Regional Organiser was himself pushing for a job as the Kumasi Depot Manager of Metro Mass Transit (MMT)
Daniel Agyenim Boateng was appointed in July 2017 but before he could assume office, another, Nicholas Oduro was also appointed to the same post.
The two appointments resulted in controversy after some supporters of Agyenim Boateng stormed the MMT Kumasi Depot demanding the withdrawal of the letter appointing Nicholas Oduro.
The demand went unheeded.
