Drivers who ply the Sofoline-Abuakwa road in the Ashanti Regional Capital of Kumasi, have threatened to embark on a massive demonstration against the government over increase in pedestrian knockdowns due to lack of footbridge on that stretch of the road.
According to them, though the contractor provided underpass for Pedestrians, it is difficult for pedestrians to use the underpass saying the government should provide footbridges to address the issue.
Kwaku Yeboah, a driver who plies from Sofoline to Sunyani said the drivers feel uncomfortable when plying that stretch.
“When you are driving and care is not taken, you will knock down a Pedestrian because there is no footbridge. In the Morning, you will see about 300 students crossing the road to school. We are appealing to government to come to our aid else Adenta demonstration part 2 will occur in Kumasi” he said.
Residents themselves are appealing to government not to wait for what happened at Adenta and Madina to happen at Sofoline before action is taken.
A pedestrian revealed that they can stand in the middle of the road for almost 5 minutes before he/she can cross the road because of the speed of the driver.
“If footbridge is available, it will make crossing the road comfortable both students and adults. The government should come to our aid and address the issue” she said.
