A US based Ghanaian, Professor Stephen Kweku Asare, who is fellow in Public Law and Justice at CDD-Ghana has come to the defence of Ghana’s Auditor General for refusing to proceed on leave.
Taking to social media, the law professor said, “The Auditor General is right in asserting his independence. It is good for the country. Basically, he has rejected the claim that he has accumulated leave. I think his view on leave accumulation sounds reasonable and appears to be more consistent with the labor law. He says he is only entitled to a 2020 leave and he is taking it but that puts his return date at around 20th July, 2020, a far cry from the non-prudential 123 day leave.”
Without an independent Auditor-General, our fiscal constitution will amount to nothing. 128/1820 is a bona fide scam and sham. Da Yie!, professor Kweku added.
Professor Asare, who is also known as Kwaku Azar also explained that, accumulated leave could mean many things and circumstantial which must be negotiated between the employee and the employer.

The law professor added that, accumulated leave could be translated into sick leave and in that instance the employer couldn’t force the employee to take all the leave at once. He spoke on Newsfile, as monitored by Ghanamatter.com.
On another development, the law professor explained that the EC have not put in place sufficient measures for the ongoing voter registration exercise to safeguard public safety as far as COVID-19 protocols are concerned.
He added he wouldn’t have registered to vote under the current situation should he have been in Ghana.
