Ghana’s former Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Tony Aidoo, has criticised his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for not providing a fair playing field for all its flag bearer aspirants to make short speeches at the recently-held 9th National Delegates Congress at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, who is one of the 12 aspirants, was given the chance to address the gathering during the Congress on Saturday, 17 November.
Also, Mahama-promoting campaign songs were blared through loudspeakers at the Congress grounds.
In Dr Aidoo’s view, “The same platform that John Mahama got, should have been made available to the other flag bearer aspirants”.
According to Dr Aidoo, who served as Senior Presidential Aide and the Head of Policy Evaluation and Oversight Unit of the Office of the President from 2009 to 2013, “The best situation would have been to create a platform for the other flag bearer aspirants in that there are other people in the race”.
As far as he is concerned, giving the other aspirants the same opportunity and platform to also address the NDC delegates, would not have delayed the Congress unduly, adding that it would have been the right thing to do to ensure fairness.
