Egyptian international footballer, Mo Salah has been hailed as a “feminist icon” after his interview with Time magazine, Liverpoolecho report.
The Liverpool star who also plays for Egypt national football team was named one of TIME’s top 100 most influential people in the world amongst others such as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Michelle Obama and Mark Zuckerberg.
During his interview, Salah spoke directly for the first time on the importance of female equality.
He said: “I think we need to change the way we treat women in our culture.
“It’s not optional.”
His comments have seen him hailed as an even bigger hero than people already thought, with many labelling him a “feminist icon” on social media.
One Twitter user @trashsavethecat said: “The two most important feminists of our age, Beyonce and Mo Salah.”
Another also said: “Feminist icon and the best non-Messi player on the planet, Mohamed Salah”.
